If these tasty looking oranges didn't look right to you -- good eyes! They're actually the seed pods of some unknown bush outside my former house in Mebane, NC, and less than a centimeter across. I spent a day once, a few years back, crawling around all over the place, looking for subjects to use the close-up diopters on.
I know better now, and would have used a tripod and some fill-flash to brighten the black shadows. But the natural light brought out the textures well, and I did use an angle for the background sky, so I wasn't a total loss back then...
